Member & Competitor Code of Conduct
Our Mission
The Flair Bartenders Association (FBA) exists to promote professionalism, education, sportsmanship, and the positive advancement of flair bartending around the world. Every member, competitor, ambassador, judge, volunteer, and partner represents not only themselves, but also the global bartending community.
Our guiding principle is:
“Service First, Competition Second & Passion Always.”
Membership and participation in FBA events are privileges that require conduct consistent with these values.
1. Professionalism
All FBA members and competitors shall:
- Treat fellow bartenders, guests, sponsors, staff, judges, and venue personnel with respect and professionalism.
- Conduct themselves in a manner that positively represents the FBA and the bartending profession.
- Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
- Follow all venue rules, local laws, and event regulations.
- Respect cultural differences and international diversity within the FBA community.
2. Sportsmanship & Competition Integrity
Competitors shall:
- Compete honestly, fairly, and ethically.
- Accept judges’ & organizers decisions with professionalism and respect.
- Refrain from attempting to influence judges, officials, or scoring outcomes.
- Avoid unsportsmanlike conduct before, during, or after competitions.
- Support fellow competitors and contribute to a positive competitive atmosphere.
- Respect event schedules, equipment, and competition staff.
The FBA encourages healthy competition while maintaining camaraderie among all participants.
3. On-Stage Conduct
During any FBA-sanctioned competition, exhibition, seminar, event, or performance, participants shall:
- Maintain safe working practices at all times.
- Avoid reckless behavior that could endanger themselves, other competitors, staff, judges, or spectators.
- Follow all competition rules and safety requirements.
- Respect the performance time limits and competition format.
- Avoid obscene, offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate behavior.
- Refrain from actions intended solely to disrupt another competitor’s performance.
Competitors are ambassadors of the sport & art whenever they step on stage.
4. Social Media & Public Communications
All members and competitors are expected to represent themselves and the FBA professionally online.
Members shall:
- Communicate respectfully on social media platforms.
- Avoid harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, or personal attacks.
- Avoid posting false, misleading, or defamatory statements about individuals, organizations, sponsors, judges, or competitors.
- Respect the privacy and intellectual property of others.
- Resolve disputes professionally whenever possible.
Constructive criticism and respectful discussion are encouraged. Public hostility, targeted harassment, or behavior that damages the reputation of the FBA or the bartending community is not acceptable.
5. Inclusion & Respect
The FBA is committed to providing an environment free from:
- Harassment
- Discrimination
- Bullying
- Intimidation
- Hate speech
- Retaliation
All participants shall be treated with dignity and respect regardless of nationality, gender, age, ethnicity, religion, disability, skill level, or background.
6. Alcohol Responsibility
As professionals in the beverage industry, members are expected to demonstrate responsible alcohol service and consumption.
Members shall:
- Promote responsible drinking practices.
- Follow all applicable alcohol service laws.
- Avoid behavior that creates safety concerns for themselves or others.
- Respect venue and event policies regarding alcohol consumption.
7. Sponsors, Partners & Brand Representation
Members and competitors shall:
- Treat sponsors and partners with professionalism and gratitude.
- Accurately represent brands and products when acting in an official capacity.
- Avoid conduct that could damage sponsor relationships or the reputation of the event.
- Respect promotional guidelines established by event organizers and sponsors.
8. Reporting Concerns
Members are encouraged to report conduct that violates this Code of Conduct.
Reports may be submitted to FBA leadership, event directors, or designated officials.
The FBA will review concerns fairly, confidentially when possible, and without retaliation toward individuals who report violations in good faith.
9. Disciplinary Action
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in one or more of the following:
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Loss of points or rankings
- Disqualification from an event
- Suspension from FBA activities
- Removal from ambassador, judging, or leadership roles
- Revocation of membership
- Permanent ban from FBA-sanctioned events
The severity of disciplinary action will be determined based on the nature, frequency, and impact of the violation.
10. Commitment to the Community
By participating in the Flair Bartenders Association, members and competitors agree to uphold the values of professionalism, integrity, respect, education, sportsmanship, and passion for the craft.
Together, we are responsible for growing the sport and art of flair bartending, supporting one another’s success, and leaving the industry stronger for future generations.
